How fast does the cooling fan at the front of a car rotate?

My friend, who knows very little about cars, stuck his fingers into the holes (to get a better grip) at the front of a running car stuck in snow in an attempt to push it out. Could he have lost a finger if he accidentally touched the fanblades? How fast does the cooling fan at the front of a car rotate?I take it your talking about an electric fan mounted in front of the evaporator. Usually they're pretty well protected by the plastic housing. If he did manage to get a finger through it you might get a nasty cut but I doubt it get cut off.

An engine driven fan which is behind the radiator can indeed chop off a finger or two, they're usually metal and have much more power driving them. How fast does the cooling fan at the front of a car rotate? There are mechanical (belt driven) and electrical (motor driven fans) and there are also fans with clutches so without knowing which you have this is a pretty hard question to answer. It wasn't a real good idea to put his fingers in there however in most cases the fan is behind the radiator so there was probably no danger. How fast does the cooling fan at the front of a car rotate? You know, I think it would be safe to say that you should keep fingers away from holes. Cooling fans are no joke. Especially the clutch driven ones.
