How do I breathe while swimming the front crawl style?

I am a good swimmer and can swim every kind of swimming style with ease. However, I have a problem while swimming the front crawl or freestyle swimming style. I cannot breathe sideways while swimming, my head is underwater throughout and I cannot move my head sideways. However, when I try my swimming speed slows down. Is this wrong? I am about to enter a swimming competition soon and don't want any blunders there or anyone to raise a objection that my swimming is wrong. How do I breathe while swimming the front crawl style? You do not want to submerge your head completely underwater when you are swimming freestyle. Keep your neck in line with your spine and as you alternate sides for breathing turn your head just until your mouth surfaces enough to catch air. Then roll your face back into the water. When this is done correctly it will allow you to get the air you need and keep swimming quickly. This is really something that a coach can help you with best. However in the mean time I would recommend going to youtube and watching some videos of freestyle swimming. There are millions of michael phelps videos on there that are good examples of how to do it flawlessly! How do I breathe while swimming the front crawl style?wtf who says front crawl style ? its free style an I suggest you get a better swim coach or trainer

How do I breathe while swimming the front crawl style?as you finish your right arm stroke and begin your left, tuck your chin to your right shoulder and take the breath...exhale on the left stroke underwater. How do I breathe while swimming the front crawl style?I have that problem too. the correct way to do it is to rotate your head sideways so you may be doing it right it just takes practice. Here are some good drills for practice:

Deck Drills - good for warm-ups

1. Stand on a step or side of the pool if possible so one leg can swing back and forth without hitting the ground. Swing the leg from the hip with the knee and foot relaxed. Notice when the knee bends naturally. Once you've learned it in slow motion, you can increase the speed until you feel like you are %26quot;whipping%26quot; your lower leg back and forth.

2. Stand on the deck with one foot forward slightly and the other back. Feet no more than a foot apart. Jump slightly and switch which foot is forward and which is back. Repeat this movement as if doing an aerobic exercise. In water aerobics, it is called a cross-country leg action.

3.Sit on the edge of the pool with the legs overhanging the water. This works best when the water level is lower than the deck. Lean back and with legs straight, imitate the flutter kick from the hips.

Water Drills

1. Flutter kick while holding onto the side of the pool. Works best if one hand in on the top of the wall and the other is directly below it approximately 18%26quot; deep for support.

2. Kick while gliding away from the wall. Can be done without kickboards or with with kickboards

.

3.Exploration drills. This drills are meant to help students feel their kick better and to help them correct their own mistakes. Obviously, some of these ask the student to do it wrong so they can feel the correct form better.

--Kick as fast as you can.

--Kick as slow as you can.

--Kick with lots of splash.

--Kick with no splash.

--Kick with no leg bend at all.

--Kick as if riding a bicycle.

4.Flutter kick on your side. Can use empty milk jugs for support orsome other flotation device. Helps the student to feel the kick both forward and backward.

5Kick with fins on.

6.Kick across the pool with head up. If swimmer can do this and keep mouth above water for breathing, they know they have a very strong kick. This is also called %26quot;alligator kicking%26quot;. Good self-test drillHow do I breathe while swimming the front crawl style?Usually swimmers just turn their head to the side with the arm that's pointing back (other arm is pointing ahead). Your body is already in a slight roll with the shoulder of the arm pointing back sort of higher then the other arm so it's natural to turn your head to that side and take a quick gulp of air. Watch the tapes of Olympic swimmers to see how they do it. You're having problems with it now because it's still ackward to you but with enough practice, just like swimming, it'll become part of just a natural rhythm as you swim. And if they do it in the Olympics, it is probably correct. You might also want to check with your swim coach. I'm surprised no one has taught you this already if you are up to competition standards. How do I breathe while swimming the front crawl style? You have to learn to breath on your side. One of the most basic and important skills of swimming is breathing correctly. Before you get into the water, stand straight with your hands by your sides. Mimic slowly stroking (without the kicking, of course). While one arm is back and the other arm is right by your ear, pretend to take a breath. It may help to pretend that your ear is glued to your arm, so when you turn to complete the stroke, your head will go along with it. In the water, your mouth will be right above the water. Breathe quickly and finish the stroke. If you can learn to breathe on both sides, kudos to you! If you can only breathe on one side though, that's okay. You'll just have to hold your breath a little longer. How do I breathe while swimming the front crawl style?I am quite good at breast-stroke but not that good at freestyle.. on the other hand my brother and my buddy are hard core freestyle swimmers.. They tried teaching me freestyle..

The technique is:

When your left hand is paddling in water, your right hand goes to the lower end of your body.. so then you turn your head outside water to take a good breath.. then continue paddling till you need to breathe again.. Yeah, dont turn ur head to both sides to breathe. thats a big mistake.. breathe only for one side, either left or right.. the only way you can get this right is by putting this to practice... so keep practicing and do well in ur competitionHow do I breathe while swimming the front crawl style?Try the style of swimming with standing on floor %26amp; bending forward. If you practice this on floor, the same can be applied while swimming. How do I breathe while swimming the front crawl style?when you want to breath turn your head to the side so that half of your goggles are in the water and half are out and just move your arms the same way or try just kicking on your side with half of your face in the water and the other out and then start to stroke when you think you're getting the hang of it
