How do you stop the neighborhood cats from using the front door as a urinal?

My sister started to feed a mother stray cat and her two kittens, so know the rest of the neighborhood cats gather at the front door and have started to mark thier territory. The smell in front of the house is UNBEARABLE!!!!! What can I use to clean it and to stop any further occurrences? How do you stop the neighborhood cats from using the front door as a urinal? It is natural instinct for a cat to mark its territory - male or female. They may not be just marking though, they may also be urinating and pooping in the vicinity so that they can stay close to their food source and out of the weather and keep warm.

My suggestion would be to relocate your food source away from the front door. Try to keep it in a location that it will be protected from the weather but also where they can have easy access.

What I have done and it works for me is the following:

I took a shovel and removed all poop piles I found and dispossed of them.

I then hosed down my front porch.

I used a broom to scrub the porch with a white vinegar solution (1 part vinegar to 3 parts water)

Then hosed down the porch again.

White vinegar is a cheap and easy way to neutralize the odor of pet urine and it does work.

You just will have to deal with the smell of vinegar for a few days but eventually the pet odor will go away and so will the vinegar smell.

I think it is wonderful that you are feeding the strays but remember to also water them. Water can be just as scarce as food. I currently feed 13 strays at my house and go through a 20 bag of cat food in a weeks time. Once you started feeding the mama cat and her babies the word got out.

You may want to check into a no kill shelter or your local human society about capturing the kittens. If you don't your stray population will get worse. Cats can have 2-3 litters a year and could have anywhere to 2-6 kittens per litter. That adds up. Once a mama cat or queen starts weening her litter she will bring them to a food source and can be easily caught. They are normally around 4-6 weeks of age and can be seperated. Contrary to popular belief the human society does not put down kittens unless they test possitive for a deadly disease.

Are they feral cats, if so TNR. Trap them, take them to a local participating vet or shelter and they will neuter and release them for free or a small donation of $10 or so.

If they are neighbors cats, you must contact the neighbor and have them neuter theri cats. Pople cannot let their un fixed cats roam the neighborhoods knocking up every cat in sight adn spraying people doors. Check out this stuff...

People usually use it in their homes as a way to stop their own pets from spraying in the house or on the furniture. Ask at the petshop for something like it.How do you stop the neighborhood cats from using the front door as a urinal?Well, you will need to clean up the urine smell, and usually wiping down with a solution of white vinegar in water (about 1:1 to 1:3) will work. As long as they detect their scent, they will continue to mark their territory. That is the first step. Now, for discouraging them, the only way will be to discourage all cats so you need to capture the mother and kittens. Then, there are passive alarms that might be effective. Hopefully that will work. You may have to go through the motions more than one time to break the cats of the habit. How do you stop the neighborhood cats from using the front door as a urinal? There are a number of products designed specifically for removing pet urine. While bleach can remove some smell, the odor it leaves is no more pleasant and will fade away. I would not use it as a deterrent. The indoor spray has a weird odor, has to be frequently reapplied as it wears off as well. There are a number of natural remedies that will discourage the cats, are not harmful to humans or animals, are readily available and easy to use. Some are fresh lemons(any citrus will work, I prefer lemons because of the their strong smell) cut up, cayenne or black pepper.
