Why is the pedal touching the front wheel when turning the handlebars on a bicycle?

I have just got my daughter a secondhand bike thats in excellent hardly used condition, not modified. When she rides it and turns the handlebars the pedal touches the front tyre. Does anyone know what could be causing it and how to fix it?

Thanks in advance for serious answers.Why is the pedal touching the front wheel when turning the handlebars on a bicycle?That 's normal it's called pedal overlap. Some of the smaller frames will have this. Most people don't pedal when they are turning that sharp.

You have to be cautious of it and have some speed to make a sharp turn with out using the pedals.Why is the pedal touching the front wheel when turning the handlebars on a bicycle?It sounds like the forks are bent. This will move the front tire too far back under the frame. You should not let her ride this until it is fixed, since that sets the center of balence of the bike too far foward and she could flip over with a head on collision (with even a small item like a toy Why is the pedal touching the front wheel when turning the handlebars on a bicycle?Going on that this bike is in %26quot;excellent hardly used condition%26quot; and with out a picture of this my guess would be that the front fork and the handle bar are 180 degrees out. Take it to a bike shop to get this corrected.Why is the pedal touching the front wheel when turning the handlebars on a bicycle?did u buy da bike brand new from a store?

if not den da front tire is to big and u should a smaller one.

also try getting smaller pedalsWhy is the pedal touching the front wheel when turning the handlebars on a bicycle?I'm gonna assume it's her foot/shoe that is making contact with the front wheel, not the pedal making contact.

Thoughtless design can result in matching wheels on frames that aren't large enough for them. While experienced riders can learn their way around it, %26quot;overlap%26quot; isn't desirable. Though we don't typically turn our front wheel at sharp angles while riding, a child riding at slow speed might and find the bicycle's safe handling compromised.

If the bicycle has fenders, removing them could solve the issue.

The only %26quot;fix%26quot; I can think of is purchasing a bike that is better designed.Why is the pedal touching the front wheel when turning the handlebars on a bicycle?%26quot;toe-verlap%26quot;

wle.

Why is the pedal touching the front wheel when turning the handlebars on a bicycle?toe overlap. You might, just might be able to solve the problem by changing to slicks if she's riding knobby tires.

If she loves the bike but just not that ... learn to turn with a slight coast at the apex of a turn.

shorter frames like 47 cm or less on road frame may have toe overlap. Go to your LBS and have her fit for a new or used bike. Could be she's riding too small a frame.
