A Jeep Grand Cherokee is rear wheel drive or possibly AWD with the back doing most of the work. So your front wheel drive answers are nonsense. If its wearing out on the outside of the tires then you are toed out, if its wearing out on the inside of the tires then you are toed in....you need to rotate your tires as reccomended and get an alignment. If you have had an alignment, then you have something going on with your front end. Your stabilizer could be bent, this is a main cause. The cost of tires varies, depending on the size and what kind you want...you need to do some research on your own. You Jeep might need an alignment, if you front end is not tracking correct then one or both tires could be faceing in or out, this could happen from hitting a potholes to a curb.
Take it to a garage that does alignments and ask them if they can take a quick check to see if they need aligned.

Improper inflation can lead to extra wear on tires as well.
